“Free and Unsubmissive”: Audrey Pulvar at Fnac in Nice

Latest News

This Saturday at the Fnac in Nice, journalist Audrey Pulvar presented her new book “Free and Unsubmissive” and answered questions from the audience, who were numerous on this occasion.

With this book, Audrey Pulvar paints the portrait of around twenty men who have made history and describes the influence they have had on her professional journey. From Alexandre Dumas to Salman Rushdie, via Albert Camus, she showcases the resistance of these men and the attacks they have endured because of their thoughts.

For the journalist, all these men have one thing in common: “They were free, and thanks to this freedom they were able to shape their destinies. But they all suffered from a profound loneliness, which allowed them a particular and nuanced reflection on society.”

Each life portrait of these exceptional men highlights their importance and defines them as true pioneers. By taking the risk of freeing themselves from their time, they wrote history and contributed to the defense of freedoms.

With all the strength of her convictions and her attachment to each of them, the author recounts their artistic, political, or personal choices and how these men became remarkable figures.

For Audrey Pulvar, each can still serve as an example today: “We must remember what these men have left behind. Faced with the violence our society is subjected to today, we must especially defend humanist principles and bring in the light that all these incredible men represent. We are in a period where we think less and less. Because to think, we need solitude and silence, everything that our era is incapable of providing.”
