Regional Elections 2015: The Communists Propose an Agreement to the Greens

Latest News

In order to give every chance for a unifying list to succeed, the PACA communists have decided to make public the proposals they have formulated to EELV to advance discussions with the Left Front, ahead of the regional elections in December.

In a troubled political context, they intend to create the conditions for a new popular and civic dynamic on the left based on clear foundations.

In this text, the PCF proposes to jointly support “a cooperative, social, ecological, and solidarity-based region refusing to adhere to the liberal and austerity-driven policies imposed on a national and European scale.” The campaign axes that hint at the regional policies to be conducted are as follows:

– The development of employment requires confronting financial logic and our region has considerable assets.

– The development of public services is essential to meet future needs and challenges.

– The region must play a leading role in the fight against climate change, especially as the time of COP21.

– The region can act to change production and consumption modes.

– The PACA region is a land of living together, welcoming, dialogue with men and women, especially in the Mediterranean area.

– Democratic innovation is urgent in the face of the increasing dispossession suffered by citizens.

The proposed agreement promotes “a shared approach” whose ambition is “to defeat the right and the far right by opening up new perspectives on the left.”

“The construction of our lists and our campaign aims to allow the full expression of a new dynamic to which everyone will contribute,” the text specifies, advancing afterwards an equitable distribution of candidates on the list. It proposes “to present on our lists at least one-fifth of women and men known and recognized for their social and civic engagement in transforming society,” noting that an equal proportion of communists and environmentalists is put forward.

Should this protocol be accepted, all partners undertake “the common commitment to present a list reflecting the diversity of society, ambitiously renovating political practices, capable through the candidates’ implantation and commitments of building a winning dynamic.”

Regarding the lead candidate, the PCF wishes to innovate and proposes a responsibility “assumed jointly by Sophie Camard (EELV) and Jean-Marc Coppola (PCF-Left Front).” The same shared functioning is planned for the campaign management. This dual leadership would concretely mean the separation of the roles of “lead candidate” for Jean-Marc Coppola and “candidate presented for the presidency of the Region” for Sophie Camard. And a list titled: “A cooperative solidary region with Sophie Camard and Jean-Marc Coppola.”

The financial issue is thus settled: “Each component will contribute to the campaign accounts proportionally to its representation. The financial agent will be designated in agreement with all forces involved in this approach.”

This protocol project was made official last Friday by the PCF, hoping to evolve discussions that were going in circles in a responsible manner.

Will the weekend bring advice?
