The remarks made by Christian Estrosi about a “possible” attack during the last Nice Carnival had a resounding effect on the opposition in Nice.
After Marie-Christine Arnautu accused the mayor of Nice of “moral complicity” with the alleged jihadists, it is now Patrick Allemand’s turn to condemn the remarks he deems inappropriate from Christian Estrosi.
Indeed, the security of the State entrusted to mayors and their municipal police… That would be a world first!
“The Deputy Mayor of Nice has just escalated his populist demagoguery to another level. He reveals to the public that a planned attack during the Nice Carnival was foiled. He publicly blames the State for not having informed him, thus preventing him from deploying his municipal police.
I condemn with the greatest firmness the remarks of the deputy mayor because:
No material evidence according to the statements attributed to the Paris prosecutor’s office establishes this alleged attack with certainty.
What is certain is that the DGSI arrested a dangerous individual, thus preventing him from taking action. Mr. ESTROSI should thank the State services and praise the effectiveness of the DGSI in this matter. He probably forgets to do so because the Minister of the Interior is a socialist. But where is the public interest in that?
The criticism leveled against the State, holding it responsible for preventing the mobilization of his municipal police, is trivial. The services of the DGSI are presumably better prepared for this type of mission.
It is clear that in such a sensitive matter, only the judiciary was authorized to communicate, and Mr. ESTROSI knows this very well. But, blinded by his anti-State crusade in the department, he pretends to ignore it.
Making public revelations about an internal security matter for purely political purposes is irresponsible and unworthy of the statesman he claims to be. Not all measures are permissible when it comes to the security of the people of Nice.
For that is precisely what is at stake, the safety of the people of Nice. Obsessed with making a splash, Mr. Estrosi has just opened Pandora’s box. This could make Nice a media target for terrorists. One can imagine the panic there will be this year during the Nice Carnival, but tomorrow, why not at popular gathering places such as the jazz festival, Prom Party…
I hope that these statements of national scope, or even more, will have no impact on the 2015 edition of the Nice Carnival, on the hotel industry, or on the restaurant and nightlife sectors for which the Carnival remains an essential event in tourism activities.”
