The City Council has voted to adopt a new measure in the form of a modified and expanded charter that secures the commitment of residents to adhere to internal civil state regulations, applicable to all ceremonies that can be held at City Hall, such as weddings, civil solidarity pacts, and civil baptisms.

Each year, more than 1,300 weddings are celebrated by the City of Nice, with an average of 25 to 30 ceremonies every Saturday.

In June 2012, in response to an increase in behavior likely to disrupt the peace, tranquility, and solemnity of certain weddings, the City of Nice established a marriage charter requiring future spouses to adhere to a code of good conduct.

Since then, 8 weddings that resulted in significant disturbances or experienced unjustifiable delays have been penalized by a postponement of their celebration.

The objective of this new internal regulation is to further sensitize residents and guide them towards an awareness of all the dispositions to be respected.

This deliberation perfectly illustrates the saying: why do it the simple way when you can do it the complicated way?

8 inappropriate behaviors out of several thousand ceremonies is a ratio that warrants a new set of bans during a celebration which, by definition, is a popular one?

Are there not enough municipal officers to maintain order during these few disturbances?

What is the purpose of this deliberation? And at whose pro and con? Isn’t there a bit of obsession in that?

Why make spouses into โ€œlittle baronsโ€? Shouldn’t they be allowed to fully express their joy, at least on the first day of their life together?
