The Festival of Words has become a spectacle of style, tone, expression, and emotion that immerses the audience in a world of elegance and confidence.
For the duration of an evening, brilliant actors perpetuate the oral tradition of storytellers from the past by bringing words to life through their talent.
The program includes readings of major works from the global literary heritage. The most renowned writers are celebrated, most of whom are world-renowned. Foreign authors, of course, such as Rudyard Kipling and Fitzgerald, but also French authors from across the ages like Voltaire, Maupassant, Jules Verne, for the classics, and contemporary authors like Didier Van Cauwelaert and Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio.
The Festival of Words allows, through moments of grace, where literature is carried by the voices of the actors, to travel in space and time, beyond borders, to the limits of the imagination…
From South America (Voyage of Louis Jouvet) to the Orient (The Thousand and One Nights), from the Indian jungle (The Jungle Book) to the four corners of the globe (Around the World in 80 Days), a journey to the heart of great literature is offered.
The Festival was inaugurated last night in Saint-Martin-Vésubie with the reading by Clotilde Courau and Lionel Suarez of “The Mountain of the Living God,” a short story by JMG Le Clézio.
Seven years ago, Clotilde Courau and accordionist Lionel Suarez united in creating “Piaf, the Intimate Being.” Today, they return to the origins of their meeting and offer musical readings. Two skills, two complementary expertise, provide a shared, singular, and moving vision.
