Under near-idyllic weather, the event brought together nearly 15,000 runners this Sunday morning on the French Riviera.
The weather was most agreeable, certainly, but a headwind throughout the entire race and a course modification to the west of Antibes did not suffice to slow down the super-athlete. After a flying start on the Promenade des Anglais, Japheth Kosgei crossed the finish line solo in Cannes, covering a total distance of over 42 kilometers. He was joined three minutes later in second place by a compatriot, Patrick Kosgei.
The first woman to cross the finish line was also Kenyan. It was Irene Jerobon, who registered a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 17 seconds. It is worth noting that the world record for the distance is 2 hours and 35 seconds, which was set last October during the Chicago marathon, in the United States.
More Scare Than Harm
Announced by Mรฉtรฉo France for this Sunday, the orange alert for “waves-inundation marine” compelled the marathon organizers to modify the race course for this November 5th. The Prefecture confirmed the information on the evening of Saturday, November 4th. It was the section to the west of Cap dโAntibes, along the Ondes beach, that was altered by the organizers. In this area of the Boulevard du Marรฉchal-Juin, the road runs directly above rocky outcrops below.
