Alpes-Maritimes has been placed on orange alert for storms on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Météo France announces a rainy and stormy deterioration between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Heavy rain, hail and wind gusts that could reach 100 km/h are expected across much of the department.
Weather conditions are changing significantly in Alpes-Maritimes. After several days marked by sunny weather and temperatures close to 30°C on the Côte d’Azur, rainy and stormy deterioration now affects the department.
Mid-morning on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Météo France raised its alert level and placed Alpes-Maritimes on orange alert for storms. Forecasters expect a stormy episode to pass through the eastern part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The phenomenon should cross the department from west to east between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The end of the episode is expected around 8 p.m.
Heavy rain, hail and gusts up to 100 km/h
The entire Alpes-Maritimes is affected, with particular attention to the middle and upper country.
According to Météo France, storms could be locally strong. Rainfall intensities of 20 to 40 mm in a short time are expected. Near elevated areas, rainfall amounts could reach 40 to 60 mm.
Hail episodes are also expected. The coast and valleys could experience wind gusts of 70 km/h. Locally, winds could reach 80 to 100 km/h under the most active storm cells.
The Alpes-Maritimes Prefecture calls for caution: “be vigilant if you engage in activities sensitive to weather risk or near a shoreline or waterway; phenomena that are usual in the region but occasionally and locally dangerous are indeed expected; stay informed of the situation’s evolution.”
This orange alert comes as the department had been placed on yellow alert for storms earlier in the day.
