The Economic and Social Council proposes 20 projects for an “open and connected” metropolis.

After the adoption in the Metropolitan Council (last Thursday) of the Metropolitan Scheme for Economic Development, Innovation, and Internationalization (SMDEII)*, a version of the Regional one, it was the turn of the Economic Development Council to present its proposals to enhance and guide Nice and its region towards a new era—the third industrial and urban revolution. This era will feature territories (megalopolises, metropolises, regions) as protagonists, just as states were in the previous one.

The goal is ambitious because it involves stepping into the global arena, having a global vision while simultaneously playing “local.” Challenges multiply as we move from know-how to a knowledge society.

This is the challenge of pursuing excellence.

The 20 projects presented illustrate essential chapters of scientific and technical innovation, but also cover all other forms of innovation in the social, cultural, ecological domains, and many others.

In his speech, Christian Estrosi highlighted “the very close links” between this document and the guiding thread of the Metropolis’s policy, based on:

– Innovation and the smart city as drivers of the economic development of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis.

– New university and entrepreneurial dynamics in the service of a high-performing ecosystem.

– Renewed attractiveness and territorial cooperation strategies.

He concluded with more than praiseworthy terms by addressing: “You represent our territory in the diversity of its talents, curiosities, and commitments. And your collective intelligence is a major asset in better understanding the difficult questions that confront us.”
