“When Nice Takes Over Facebook”

Latest News

Facebook (an English word for “yearbook”) is an online social network designed to connect people who are close or unknown to each other. Established at Harvard (USA) in 2004, this community network has continually grown since its inception, and today it has over 65 million users worldwide, including 1.5 million in France.

With just three clicksโ€”one to sign up, another to log in, and a third to upload a photoโ€”and three clicks later, you reconnect with friends from the distant past to the very present: finding out what happened to Julie, the beautiful blonde who charmed us in high school who is now a brunette, married, with two children. Exchange thoughts with strangers about your passions, your favorite music, and also discover groups located in Nice and the French Riviera.

Letโ€™s zoom in on these popular groups that enhance the coast’s reputation online:

First, letโ€™s visit THE group, the one with the highest number of members from the Riviera (3,500) with the suggestive title “I come from the French Riviera and NO, I donโ€™t have a crappy attitude” indicating that Facebook mainly attracts a student audience; it claims “you can come from Nice, Cannes, or Monaco and not be pretentious.”
The other group is “Nissa La Bella” with more than 2,200 members: all the wonderful life of Nice summarized in one page, packed with sunshine, beaches, gastronomy, nightlife, and good cheer.

Thereafter come the educational groups, like that of the University of Nice which totals 1,600 members, including various colleges and high schools in Niceโ€ฆ

Since Nice undoubtedly leans towards the right politically, there are also various support groups for Christian Estrosi such as “Youth with Christian Estrosi for Nice”.

But Facebook is also about relaxation, good humor, and all kinds of fun, with groups like “Organizing a right-wing protest in Nice” or “Moving Paris to the French Riviera.” The former plans to organize a right-wing demonstration in the coming months with slogans such as “Go Fillon, hit the gas,” “Deserved benefits, for Jean-Marie Messier!”, “Overtime doesnโ€™t eat bread, the poor do!”, “CAC40, CAC40, yay, yay!” The latter consists of Parisians who are โ€œfed up with the lousy weatherโ€ and want to move the capital between Nice and Marseille!

And there are hundreds of other groups to discover; here are some of them:
