The law on Voluntary Civic Service was passed on March 10, 2010, replacing the Voluntary Civil Service created in 2006. This program allows young people aged 16 to 25, of French nationality or residing in France for more than a year, to commit to a mission benefiting the community for a period of 6 to 12 months.
Anticipating the national development of this program, the city of Nice had already committed in 2009 with the association Unis-Citรฉ to experiment the implementation of voluntary civic service in its territory.
In response to the strong desire of the city of Nice and its Communal Center for Social Action (CCAS) to promote social diversity through this program, an agreement was signed in July 2010 between the Association Unis-Citรฉ Mรฉditerranรฉe and the CCAS to integrate 12 volunteers within the CCAS establishments in Nice for a period of 9 months, which has been renewed each year since. The Unis-Citรฉ association is responsible for mentoring the young volunteers.
For the 2011-2012 year, the volunteers were present three days a week in different services of the Communal Center for Social Action:
ยท Gerontology Service;
ยท Home Visit Service;
ยท Service for people in precarious situations;
ยท Within the Le Village Social Center, House of Solidarity and Sharing.
During these 9 months, the young volunteers gained skills and etiquette while offering their time and energy to the community.
This immersion allowed them to find a vocation. Some of them genuinely discovered a path and a professional profile they wish to pursue, such as an educator for the underprivileged or a psycho-medical assistant…
This diploma will allow them to leverage this experience for career orientation or job search.
