On Monday, December 10, 2012, at 2 PM, Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, will proceed with the presentation and installation of the Youth General Council (CGJ).
The CGJ is composed of 52 elected students from the 4th-grade classes of the 48 organizing middle schools in Alpes-Maritimes. Elected for two school years through a two-round uninominal voting system, the young general councilors each represent a canton of the department.
During the plenary installation assembly, the new councilors choose, based on their interests, a committee dealing with a specific area of expertise.
The following committees are offered to them:
The “health, solidarity, and education” committee, which addresses topics concerning the protection of privacy on the internet and especially the dangers of social networks;
The “environment, heritage, and safety” committee, which deals with the theme of energy savings.
A forum for exchanges and debates, each committee allows the young elected members to work on the realization of one or more action projects, supervised by departmental services and the National Education.
The CGJ: a true school of democracy and citizenship
In 2003, at the initiative of its President, and in association with the Academic Inspection, the General Council created the first Youth General Council. A place of expression, reflection, but above all action, the CGJ enables young people to inject a dynamic of participation in the organization of collective life and offers them the opportunity to design projects on subjects directly affecting the middle school students of Alpes-Maritimes.
